Teaching

Learn to notice
how language works

My teaching connects linguistic concepts to authentic examples, comparative analysis, and research practice—so that students learn not only what an analysis says, but how evidence supports it.

“A strong linguistics classroom turns curiosity about everyday language into questions that can be tested, analysed, and debated.”

I aim to make theoretical ideas concrete through structured examples, guided analysis, and discussion. Students move from recognising a pattern to formulating an argument about it—and to understanding where the available evidence ends.

From observation to argument

01

Start with data

Authentic and elicited examples give students something concrete to observe before terminology is introduced.

02

Compare analyses

Alternative explanations reveal which claims the evidence supports and where assumptions enter an argument.

03

Work across languages

Turkish, English, and cross-linguistic evidence make variation visible and challenge language-specific intuitions.

04

Write with precision

Students practise connecting a focused research question, a transparent method, and a proportionate conclusion.

Building independent research judgement

I support students in narrowing a topic into an answerable question, selecting appropriate evidence, documenting analytic decisions, and revising claims in response to results.
